Three ways to use your Viper Gen2 – do you know all of them?

If you’ve recently picked up and have the latest firmware of  Viper Gen2 clip-on device , you may have noticed something unexpected: the display on your Viper Gen2 appears upside down. Don’t worry – the device is operating normally as it is supposed to.

A device with three modes explained

With the introduction of the Viper Helmet Mount, the Viper Gen2 now supports three separate operating modes, each optimised for a different use case. Clip-on mode – Mount it behind your existing rifle scope and hunt as normal. This is the classic Nitehog setup most users know well. Observation mode – Use the Viper Gen2 as a standalone thermal spotter, without a scope. Ideal for glassing fields, checking fence lines, or scouting before the shot. Helmet mount mode  – Attach the device to the new Viper Helmet Mount for completely hands-free operation. In this mode, the display automatically flips to a heads-up orientation, designed to be read while you’re moving — not looking through a scope.

Why the display flips

When mounted at helmet level, a standard display orientation would be unreadable. The auto-adjusted display in helmet mode is a deliberate design feature, not a setting you’ve accidentally changed. The device detects the mounting configuration and adapts accordingly.

Updated manuals are available now

All three modes are covered in detail in the updated Viper Gen2 manual , already uploaded to our website.
